Great North Festival of Transport – 2 events down, 1 to go…
The last two weeks have been busy preparing for and operating the first two four-day weekends of the Great North Festival of Transport. With so much going on I have not been able to update the blog nor take many photographs! To kick off with, in our build up to the Great North Steam Fair and its commencement this Thursday, here are some images taken over the last week or so…
We start with a selection of views taken by Colin Slater, showing some of the visiting attractions…
Below: Now some, taken from my phone and captured in some pretty gloomy conditions. We start with Vulcan. Some stunning views of this, taken during a 30742 photo charter last week can be found at:

We had a very good day with the fog adding to the atmosphere!
Below: This months Rowley Station motive power is Salmon, as mentioned in an earlier post.
Below: Last Saturday and Sunday saw a model tramway exhibition, arranged my Gordon Bulmer, take place at the Museum – giving a nice indoor option for visitors.
Below: Over in the Colliery the narrow gauge was in operation with Isabel and Peter Pan in steam (as they will be this weekend, with added stone crushing display). In a rare moment of sunshine, Isabel poses alongside the replica Rookhope snowplough.
Below: The new inspection pit was connected in time to enable Edward Sholto to be shunted into position to enable us to start stripping it for the annual boiler inspection on behalf of its owner.
Below: Finally, a couple of views of Vulcan in the sunshine – more photos will appear in due course…
Thanks for those shots Paul. I didn’t get far enough from the exhibition to see what you had down the Colliery!
Hi Paul,
Is there any chance you could give me a few dimensions of coffee pot?
Superb – looking forward to attending this weekend with the Durham Pals
Thanks Paul for the mention of the Model Tramway Exhibition, most tramway people did visit during the weekend.
