GNSF Day 3 2017…
What a contrast in weather! Day three has been spectacularly busy, perhaps one of the busiest days we’ve had for a steam fair. We start with a few photos that I took travelling around the site during the day…
The blog has once again reached its capacity and whilst ways are considered as to how to manage this, there may be a short interruption until normal service is resumed… Meanwhile, Flickr and Facebook will no doubt be crammed with images from this event!
Fabulous day today – great displays everywhere. Many thanks to the staff and exhibitors at Beamish, we thoroughly enjoyed this event.
In the last 5 years I have never seen Beamish as busy as it was on Saturday! I don’t know if its true, but we were told that the site had simply run out of car parking space by 12 noon – we ended up in the overflow, and the queue on the A693 extended back to Pelton!
Strangely I’ve seen the town a lot busier than it actually was but believe the queues for certain attractions, particularly food outlets were immense.
Whilst personally I had no problems with the crowds, there was clear evidence, particularly the queue for the gift shop at the end of the day. I suggested to a member of staff that on such event days, perhaps later opening (till 6pm) may help (Apparently this was tried some years ago but found to be ineffective due to overtime rates paid – but I think certainly Saturday may have proved differently).
Hopefully during the event de-brief some positive ideas for the future can be found.
As for the event itself – absolutely fantastic – probably one of the best GNSF’s so far. Thank you to yourself and your staff, and volunteers for the hard work put in to make the event a success. Heres looking forward to next year!
