General News Roundup…
Below: Over in the yard, Darren and Mark have been working on reassembling and repairing two 60lb two foot gauge turnouts for use on the next phases of the narrow gauge development. It is hoped to put into use further track for the 30th August – 2nd September ‘Power from the Past’ event, which will hopefully see a visit by Statfold Barn’s 0-6-0WT GP39 (formerly known as ‘Bronllwyd’) and the Abbey Light Railway’s Hudson Go-Go petrol tractor.
Below: One of the corner posts of 196 has been badly attacked by rot caused by water ingress from the roof above. Tony has cut this back to solid wood and grafted in new timber, which is glued and screwed to the original post. These two views show the before and after of this process.
Below: During the week I collected a number of patterns for No.18/Lewin – dominating this view is the chimney pattern and the core box for it (which enables it to be hollow!). The pattern and core box for the steam fountain is to the right.
what are the cut wires in the side of 196?
They are the redundant cables from when the resistances were mounted on the roof (now platform mounted). As part of this overhaul a number of further redundant roof mounted items, such as the steps, will be removed as the whole roof will be enclosed by advert panels along the lines of those carried on the Gateshead cars, complete with ‘Shop at Binns’ on the ends.
