Trams – 2010

19th June 2009

You read it here first! 2010 is looking like being a fantastic year for tram enthusiasts. In the late summer we can look forward to Blackpool Tramway’s 125th anniversary celebrations. For more on this keep an eye on www.britishtramsonline.co.uk

Following on from the success of L53 visiting us this May, thoughts turn to next year’s Power from the Past event. I think the theme will be ‘Corporations and Contractors’ and will have focus on service and maintenance vehicles. So lots of steam rollers!

As part of this, the tramway should have some exciting attractions and we have requested Leeds 6 from Heaton Park to take part. This is still to be confirmed, but early discussions are encouraging. We have also requested one other tram from elsewhere to support this theme.
From our own point of view, we may outshop Blackpool 31 in works green livery as per its latter Blackpool life. Paired with the tower wagon, 749, this should make quite a spectacle.
It should be urged at this point that all the above is subject to change and ideally, to sponsorship. 31 will then embark for Blackpool to take part in the 125th celebrations, restored to its 1920s livery as carried at the moment.

In exchange for 31, we have requested BTS’ Boat car 600, but this again is subject to change. This is high-season for Beamish so we need to keep the fleet strength up. Again, these are early days and this is all subject to confirmation. Please keep watching this blog for the real information!
