There is quite a lot to report today…

Below: This is a Trilox invalid carriage, self propelled, dating from the 1950s.  It was retrieved from storage on site last year and has since been subject to a comprehensive restoration at the hands of some of the Friends workshop volunteers.

Below: Here is the completed project, under test.  As can be seen it consists of a simple frame with seat and attachments to enable hand propulsion via two chain connected cranks.  This a rare item to see restored and it will add to the breadth of the cycle collection as well as maybe one day fulfilling a role within the potential 1950s development at Beamish.

Below: Harry Wilson has completed the work to the gateway at Rowley Station – here is his handiwork and I am sure it will be appreciated by all users of this gateway, particularly those on steam rollers and traction engines!

Below: Tony and Dan have now dismantled this once specimen chaldron.  The painted boards have been salvaged for store, whilst the components will be added to the stocks of material for future chaldron reconstructions.  This example was replaced as a specimen (i.e. an original, datum, object) by the more complete and stable L25 and L434.

Below: A finishing touch for Lewin’s buffer beams – the steel buffing plates, profiled and now bolted in place.  The timber itself will be painted red, with the plates in black.

Below: Brian and Tom managed to coax the Ford Popular into life today, and after their attentions it runs very sweetly indeed.  Here Brian makes adjustments under the bonnet.

Below: Another team job this morning – re-wheeling (or re-trucking) Oporto 196…

Below: Which was completed by late morning.

Below: Tony then set about the rotten panels as a start of the overhaul of the bodywork prior to repainting commencing next week.

Below: The tram group have a new corner, and have made good use of it to prepare fittings for the overhead lines outside the depot that will enable Road 4 to be energised.  Here Mel and Peter are seen at work at their relocated benches.
