Forcett Coach – latest photo of restoration progress…

This photograph shows the latest progress on No.179, the former Stockton & Darlington Railway ‘Forcett’ coach (so named because of its long post-main line life at Forcett Quarry).  Reassembly is clearly evident as is the extensive scumbling (wood graining) effect that was originally applied these coaches (used for market day traffic – see earlier posts on the subject and restoration).  Stanegate Restorations & Replicas continue the extensive work with completion in the spring anticipated.  It will require a mechanical overhaul once back at Beamish, including fitting of air brakes (done in a non-invasive and entirely reversible manner) to enable its operation on the Waggonway and elsewhere…
