The bogies saga…
The offer of a set of ex Grimsby & Immingham bogies seemed too good an offer to resist, and has been seen in earlier posts, we had such an offer and therefore collected said bogies. They were not maximum traction type, so not of an ex Gateshead tram, and I must admit we have been so busy I hadn’t even looked at them after arrival here! Today, with a few minutes to spare, I visited them, armed with a tape measure. A number of correspondents had suggested they weren’t even G&I ex GC bogies and looked rather like the unpowered Glasgow subway bogie type. A quick measure of the gauge confirmed this – they are four foot gauge bogies and therefore off the Glasgow Subway! Nice though, and potentially useful wheel castings and associated bits, but not G&I and not able to be used as they stand.
Thanks to everyone who has been in touch regarding these – and if anyone needs any components from them please feel free to get in touch! Reduced in width they’d make lovely narrow gauge coach bogies…
Hi, I know this is an old post but are the boogies still available?I´m building two narrow gauge coaches for my steam locomotive Orenstein and Koppel 0 4 0, form 1912 and this pair would be amazing for me.
Best regards, Rafael
Hi Rafael
I’m afraid they went to a tramcar restoration project, though I’m not sure if they have been used or not. They would take some re-gauging but would have made substantial narrow gauge bogies. If I ever hear of them not being used, I’ll try and post on this blog in case they are available again.
Best wishes
Paul
Hi Rob, working from home I don’t have access to all of the files to do a piece on the NER coaches at the moment. Eric Maxwell wrote them up for the Tanfield Railway’s house magazine several years ago, and that remains the definitive account for now. The will be covered on here one day – just an absence of material to hand means I can’t do much now I’m afraid.
Best wishes
Paul
hi paul
thanks for getting back to me on that, much appreciated
The small self propelled crane that you have in the station yard, any plans to restore it in the future?
Cheers
Rob
