Lewin – now all the bits are made!

Below: The various components for Lewin that have been under overhaul/being manufactured in various parts of the country are now gathering back in Co Durham.  Over at Hetton, Vince is making up the steam pipes, quite complicated work to do properly as the parts fitted were neither original nor suitable for the restoration.  This view shows the exhaust steam pipes, leading up to the blastpipe (still to be fitted).  They sweep forwards to make room for the main steam pipe.

Below: Meanwhile, this morning at Beamish, the superstructure arrived from Hunslet, and was quickly unloaded so we could admire the superb job they have made of the various components.  First off, the bunkers…

Also, related to Lewin, the injectors have been completed and are ready to fit to the various water valves and brackets previously made.  Therefore, much of the engine is now complete and ready for assembly, though of course as so much of the engine is new, there is a fair amount of work to fit everything together correctly.  But, we are making good headway and completion is not far away now…
