Lewin – the latest progress w/c 11th June 2012

Below: Work on Lewin (or No.18 as I am increasingly calling it) is progressing well, with daily achievements visible.  Tony Vollans has joined in, fitting the buffer beams, as seen below.  Steel face plates will complete the buffer beams, along with some tidying and trimming to enable couplings to be placed over the hooks.

Below: Dave Young has turned a beautiful Mahogany base for the open fronted pressure gauge (still to be calibrated), in record time – less than 24 hours after being given the gauge itself!

Below: Dave (left) and Vince at work on the tank, re-tapping the boss which provides a seat for the safety valve spring to be anchored onto.

Not shown is that the blow-down arrangement has been completed (and made operable from the cab), the reversing lever has been fitted and further progress made on the pipework.  The next job is to refit the tank, then the injectors and associated pipework – hopefully this will appear in the next post.  Dave has homework too!  He is making brass brackets for additional oil pots, a new safety valve anchor and will work on the handrails and various linkages.  Meanwhile I continue to stare at the photographs and sketch the final details.
