Wet paint and low loaders – a typical day before a transport event!

There is a lot of work going on both behind and in front of the scenes as we gear up for the Power from the Past event this Thursday onwards.  Low loaders of traction engines, steam rollers, steam locomotives and even a diesel locomotive are Beamish bound as exhibits arrive for the event.

Below: Meanwhile, some of the residents are receiving attention – here the GW box van receives a repaint from Harry Wilson, a volunteer at Rowley Station.

Below: Dave Antell arrived last night with ‘Whitehead’…

Below: Almost unnoticed, Oporto 196 made its first runs under power in the depot yard.  The paintwork is now completed and the tram really does look superb, the new roof boards really finishing it off nicely.

Below: Many comments were made by visitors today when Phil and I applied the BR crests to Gateshead 10 (or G&I 26 as we should now call it).  That is wore this livery in service for 10 years is not commonly known!  The crests, Mk1 type, really did sit on the beading like this originally – 26 being unusual in carrying the circular type, the other trams having the open type of crest.

Below: Really quite eye catching isn’t it?!  A few details to add this evening, but otherwise ready for service on Thursday…
