Transport & Industry News 13th November 2012…

It has been a busy few weeks and so the blog has suffered a little in terms of updates.  However, as well as some news to report, below, I am also pleased to say that the downloads section has grown a little and now contains a small but growing collection of select trade catalogues.  Recent additions are a Shand Mason fire engine catalogue from 1913 (ish) which is absolutely stunning and so beloved of curators here that it seldom spends much time on the shelves!  The second is one from my own collection, a Wallis & Steevens B Type Motor Roller catalogue from 1932 and complete with the covering letter that accompanied this literature.

Meanwhile, out and about on site:

A selection of views showing various activities from the day.  The views show (and apologies that these don’t tie in directly with each image but after carefully laying out the blog post and then publishing it, it failed to work!  So a gallery is presented with the following notes):

Hugh at work on Sunderland 101’s controller – unsung but everyday work for the tramway electrician.

Chris at work on welding up the footsteps on the Fort T Truck, which have to endure the rough and tumble of everyday use and frequently being stood on!

The Friends are progressing the restoration of the Mills-Fulford sidecar and it is seen in the view here trial fitted to the Dene.

The depot overhead fittings, prepared by the tram group and being labelled ready for fitting to the traction poles.

Work on the workshop facilities, including the creation of a pattern loft (ladder to be fitted soon) and completion of the insulation and lining out of the main erecting shop area.  The next stage will be sealing and painting the floor then wiring.
