The heavy overhaul of the wooden deck and step components of the Savage Steam Gallopers is progressing well.  8 sets of the 12 sections of steps are receiving extensive renovation  whilst the decks are likewise being attended to as required, and strengthened wherever needed.  Tony is carrying out the joinery, following his apprentice Dan who is dismantling the components.  Afterwards Gordon and David are cleaning and preparing the wood for new paintwork.  The steps and decks will be fully repainted and the step risers will receive an original harlequin style of red/white stripes, offset on the lower step risers.  The steps themselves will be red, with a non-slip varnish being applied to the surfaces.  it is hoped that regular maintenance of this finish will save the need for wholesale repainting every winter.
