Glasgow 1068 confirmed for GNFoT 2013…

Here is some news to brighten a Monday morning!

The National Tramway Museum at Crich has enthusiastically responded to requests for a visiting tramcar to visit the Beamish Tramway 40th anniversary celebrations in April. Glasgow 1068 will make the trip north to become the first Scottish tramcar to operate at Beamish and it will appear as an operational guest throughout the celebrations. 1068 took a starring role at 2012’s commemoration of the closure of the Glasgow system at Crich (see earlier blog entry), for which it was repainted from its Paisley guise as No.68 into the famous Glasgow livery as a blue route car.  This work was generously funded by the Scottish Tramway and Transport Society.

The cooperation between organisations has been fantastic and the National Tramway Museum is sure that 1919 built 1068 will be a major star of the event – the actual celebratory weekend being from April 4 to 7, as part of the overall 12 day ‘Great North Festival of Transport’.

The move will bring 1068 within easy reach of many Scottish tramway enthusiasts and it is hoped that many will be able to avail themselves of the chance to ride on 1068 at Beamish during its stay in the north east.

For further information on the event at Beamish please visit www.beamish.org.uk or phone 0191 370 4000.  For more information on Glasgow tramcar 1068 please contact the National Tramway Museum at Crich – website www.tramway.co.uk
