Boat Tram 233 – owners plan new future for tram…

News regarding Blackpool Boat Tram No.233…

Firstly, a gallery of its stay at Beamish, from first arrival in faded WW2 style livery to outshopping in glorious green and cream.

Next week, up to Sunday 1st September, will be the last opportunity to ride on Blackpool Boat tram No.233, which will be taken out of service thereafter as we have been given notice that the owners wish to terminate the loan period ahead of its two year term and that they have further plans for the tram away from Beamish.

Readers will recall that the tram was brought to Beamish after storage by the LTT in Blackpool, and given a quick brush up and a repaint sponsored by British Trams Online and assisted by the TMS (who allowed us to use the David Smith artwork for the crests) as well as Beamish Tramway Group who carried out much of the necessary commissioning work (which included re-wiring the traction supply from the tower, making good the tower and base and work to the controllers and wiring) to a very tight deadline.  233 didn’t see too much use in 2012 due to the weather, but has been in regular use this year given the very good weather we’ve enjoyed.

So, if you want to ride it here, this will be the last opportunity to do so – I apologise for the very short notice but this arrangement has been subject to a level of confidentiality which we have had to honour.

We’ve loved having 233 here and this summer has enabled it to operate on a greater number of days than has been the case last year, showing what a popular car it is with visitors and crews alike.  The team is ensuring that it is out every day possible so that as many folk can enjoy it while it is still with us.

Further announcements will be made by the owners regarding 233’s future shortly. See: http://ltt-news.blogspot.co.uk/
