Sunderland Tram 16 Progress

Work on the Sunderland 16 is cracking on, as seen in the photos below. The Beamish Tramway Group, museum staff and Stanegate Restorations have all been progressing work with the intention of finishing the work by the end of June. 16 should then be a rejuvenated and improved tram!

Below: A start is made on masking the capping strips and eventually the black borders on the lettering prior to re-sealing and repainting these respectively. There is a lot of this work around the car!

Below: The joints between dash panel framing and the body have settled in operation and are stable, but have left a large gap. This has resulted in cracked paintwork. After cleaning this out, Tigerseal is applied to fill the gaps before being painted to match the nearby colours – fortunately we still had some tins of the original paint used. A coat of varnish will follow.
