Wooden trough for street watering cart

Wooden trough for street watering cart

19th June 2009

Dave Young brought in the wooden trough for the street watering cart this morning, for trial fitting to the brackets and supply pipe. The wood is Meranti, a hardwood often used in place of Walnut.

Below: Dave has fitted copper pipes to create the spouts, as suggested by engravings in various trade catalogues. This should offer a degree of protection to the wood, saving the interior being exposed to damp.

Below: The lid is, we think, important to reduce splashing! We are minded to varnish the box, probably with a bitumastic coating for the interior. The tank will be blue, with wheels and shafts in red as per the water cart for the steam roller.

Below: A general view of the box mounted on the cart. The existing brackets require some ‘manipulation’ to get a perpendicular fit for the box to the cart in the various relevant angles.
