Festival of Transport 2025 Part 1
As part of the event coverage, here are some images taken on the Sat/Sun/Tues/Wed of the Festival of Transport (the second half will be covered in Part 2 next week).
Below: The Glasgow TD1 has been a star exhibit, and will be remaining with us for a few more weeks, so I’m hoping we can advertise further opportunities to take a tour of the site on this superb vehicle.
Below: Sir Berkeley and No.2 have been in steam together on some days, allowing loco-swaps during the day. We’re running with Sir Berkeley mid-week in the main, but the two will be in steam together again on the closing weekend of the festival. The pair are seen here being prepared for operation on the first Sunday of the event.
Below: John Sullivan’s superb Albion tanker has been seen at our events before, but a reappearance is always welcome and the sheer quality of the restoration is always worth admiring if you get a chance to see it.
Below: The bus line-up will largely be repeated for the second weekend of the event, though some changes and a few additions are being made, to add to the variety. We are very grateful to all of those who have taken part and brought their vehicles to Beamish to help make the event a varied and exciting one for the museum’s visitors.
Below: Some buses operated on the service routes, whilst others (such as the Glasgow TD1 and open toppers, operated a circular tour starting and ending at Foulbridge.

Below: On Tuesday/Wednesday this week, vintage vehicles have been to the fore, with the museum’s own vehicles also appearing in the displays and around the site. The bus route has been diverted temporarily (through Front Street) to clear one side of the Town for parking and display.
Below: As has become traditional on the Saturday evening of the bus event, a line-up of the available vehicles took place in order for the museum and vehicle owners to take photographs of them within the street setting.
Below: Looking ahead to this coming weekend, we see Velinheli making its way to Minffordd from Boston Lodge at the rear of a fuel train, to enable its collection by lorry and delivery to the Beamish later this week…
Below: Back to Beamish and Tuesday/Wedesday saw a variety of vintage and veteran cars/motorcycles at the museum, as well as some fairly busy days too, depsite the rain!
Below: Thursday and Friday – road steam/road haulage, plus the arrival and unloading of Sybil and Velinheli, for which Glyder provided the shunting motive power.
Part 2 will cover the rest of the event, in particular the Colliery Railway operations and part 2 of the bus operations.
