Festival of Transport 2025 Part 2

Festival of Transport 2025 Part 2

Here is a second gallery of images taken over the last few days, showing (primarily) the narrow gauge operation, which featured visiting locomotives Velinheli and Sybil, alongside residents Samson and Glyder.  This was the first time since the early 1960s that the two visiting locos, both ex Dinorwic, had been in steam together, and there was a lot of interest from the fence line in seeing them operating together.

Below: Coffee Pot operated on the Friday and Saturday as planned, and will now take a break whilst some mechanical maintenance is undertaken (which there wasn’t time to do between it’s retube and arrival back at the museum).  It also needs a very good clean!

Below: KPT 909 didn’t make it into service for the event, as it is still waiting on glazing for the emergency window upstairs, and some internal details to be fixed.  It was on display, however, and was able to take part in various line-ups during the event.  We’re very much looking forward to seeing it enter service as it will both reinforce the fleet, and add a splash of red around the site.

It’s been a long time since we ran a festival, and keeping the momentum up for nine days (plus all of the preparation/dismantling) is certainly a challenge, but commercially the event went well, it was well-received by the visitors and we will now debrief and see what, if anything, we can change/tweak/add/drop for future programmes.  Meanwhile, we have locomotives to return to their railways, and the next round of museum events and activities to continue with…

It is worth placing on record our thanks to all of those who attended with exhibits, both road and rail, throughout the event, and worked hard to make sure our visitors had the very best experiences, right across site.  There is widespread coverage of the event on social media – the photos I’ve put on these posts being just a small part of the coverage that can be enjoyed.
