Trackwork Progress and Plans

11th August 2009

Our track lads have been making steady progress on the NER railway while the Komatsu chaps are away. These are due to start back next week so preparations for this have been made.
This has included clearing the track and removing sleepers identified for replacement. We are also thinking about the location of engine shed, water tower and an additional platform in this area.

Below: Looking west and showing the curve currently receiving attention. To the right is the disused sewage plant. This is proposed as the site of a single road engine shed capable of holding three tank engines plus pit, mess, stores and signing on point.

Below: The same location looking eastwards. A platform may be built where the Landrover is parked. This will mean relocating the loading/unloading siding.

Below: Site of proposed engine shed.

Below: The completed track looking westwards. Some tidying is required and the concrete wall that supports the carriage house requires cladding. This is an attractive industrial view for photographers!

Below: A turnout will lead off behind the excavator, leading a siding along the formation to the left and towards the engine shed. This area will be filled to rail height to create a new loading/unloading area. The platform is likely to be on the right, starting where the spare excavator bucket is positioned.
