Newcastle 114’s race against the clock and pigeon problems!
5th April 2011
Below: 114 is now receiving top coats, though it isn’t too clear in this view!
Below: It is rather clearer here though – the brown is a deep reddy-brown colour that we now know as ‘Anderson Plum’ (a mix of LMS Crimson, purple and black). The Newcastle colours were described variously and numerously as crimson/brown/maroon/all between – take your pick! The white is undercoat, the topcoat being creamier in appearance.
Below: Phil (Anderson) applies the cream topcoats… We are pushing very hard to have the tram in service during the GNSF – which leaves about 10 days to achieve this!
Below: Pigeons are proving to be a real nuisance and are attempting to roost in the tram shed – this is an attempt to deter them. If this doesn’t work there is a more permanent solution which can be administered by our farm staff…
Below: A glimpse in the new barn as preparations are made to move the chip van to the chip shop – hopefully by horse power. If not, should the wheels not be deemed suitable for such a long trip (nearly a mile!) then it will be trailered. Our brief in restoring it did not allow for reconstruction of the wheels for anything more than positioning – wheels are incredibly expensive and we were keen to retain as much of the original as possible, which Stanegate Restorations & Replicas were able to do very successfully.
Best of luck getting everything ready in time. It all seems to be coming together and looks great!
I did hear about a Steam Navvy (not the Ruston Bucyrus one already on site) being part of the GNSF but haven’t heard any details, if its already arrived or when its expected. I’m really hoping to get some decent pictures of that in operation.
Best regards
Gavin
for the problem with pigeons put parrots up in the building as they don’t seem to like them. this has worked in the sheds at crich for years
