Our own ‘Head of Steel’ moves northwards…

Borrowing from the Welsh Highland Railway’s extension website, the term ‘head of steel’ now quite nicely applies to our own narrow gauge endeavors as the railway expands in four directions! The total track mileage when this phase is completed will be a modest 150 yards, but the work that Darren, Mark and Owen are carrying out (in blazing sunshine) is rapidly bringing to fruition a long held aspiration for the transport system developments at Beamish. We have already discussed potential future extensions, but in the meantime we will have something quite charming and interesting for the event in April, and a nucleus around which we can expand this side of the operation.

Below: Here are some photos showing progress today, including the laying of the second turnout and completion of the connecting link between turnouts.
