General News Roundup 16th August 2012

Below: With so much going on it is hard to know where to start an update.  So lets begin with Gateshead 10, seen here sans advertising boards and much of its paintwork.  The destination boxes have been removed and we are looking at producing some replica roof lamps in the G&I style (not least because there is a need to use up the lights on these circuits!).

Below: 196, complete with roof boards, number and almost ready for varnishing.  After that, the windows can be refitted and the mechanical final-assembly completed.  Looking good…

Below: It has almost been summer over the last few days – great news for 233 which has been out every day, delighting the crowds.  It is seen here at Foulbridge and pondering the outcome of a darkening sky…

Below: Phil has been at work on No.18 – the white edging to the black lining transforms the appearance of the engine.  We also have a date booked for a steam test, with a few jobs to complete in the meantime.  Dave is busy brightening long tarnished fittings and making brackets for a multitude of purposes.

Below: The narrow gauge line has been ‘ballasted’ in crushed tarmac (which binds into a very rigid mass) and has reached, more or less, its full extent prior to the event.  After that, other work allowing, the expansion of the ‘boiler house branch’ will continue.
