General News Roundup – 21st August 2012

Below: Gateshead 10’s transformation is at present enjoying that stage of a paint job where it looks, to be frank, rather a mess!  It is seen here in varying shades of undercoat, with underframe cleaned and prepared and roof stripped of fittings ready for painting.  Rest assured, it will look lovely!

Below: A new arrival, and one which I will report on in more detail in due course (probably with an article attached to this blog) – a former Leamington & Warwick Horse Tram which has arrived at Beamish from Summerlee Heritage Centre where a certain amount of restoration had been carried out.  It is identical to Newcastle & Gosforth No.49, for which we have some surviving components, so I will be investigating using all of these parts to make up one tram.  Very much a long term project however…

Below: No.18 has had its first fire!  Tested to low pressure, the commissioning process will shortly begin.  However, the testing has revealed a number of areas for attention and there will not now be time to address these before next week, so No.18 will play a static role at the Power from the Past gathering.  This being the holiday season, our timetable for commissioning is somewhat restricted, but I would hope that, with work ongoing over the next week or so, we will be in a position to book a formal steam test once our boiler inspector is back from leave.  Meanwhile, we can attend to a number of jobs, not least final completion of the painting.
