Narrow Gauge developments… August 2012

Below: Work continues on the narrow gauge railway, as part of our general development of this feature but also with the ever-useful target of a forthcoming event to focus the mind.  As Power from the Past will feature, subject to confirmation, guest appearances by Statfold Barn’s recently restored Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0WT GP39 (formerly known as Bronllwyd, a stalwart at Bressingham Steam Museum) and the Abbey Light Railway (in Leeds) based Hudson Go-Go tractor.  I am also hoping that we can arrange to move the stone crusher and locate a suitable portable engine to power it – as ever, watch this space!
Tony and Dan have forged ahead with the construction of a new narrow gauge engine shed, to more generous proportions than the existing one (which was designed specifically for the smaller range of locomotives which we were limited to operating on the 20lb track).  It is of a traditional design and will be finished in black bitumen.  It is hoped that in due course we will be able to base a narrow gauge locomotive here on a semi-permanent basis, and discussions regarding such an outcome are ongoing.  To the left of the shed the line will continue to a small suite of sidings serving the boiler house, just visible in the background.

Below: Important finishing work – fitting some rather nice point levers to the running line turnouts.  Darren has been at work on these for some time, as their installation has been less than straightforward (isn’t that always the case?!).  One lever operates in parallel to the turnout, the other is at right angles, as can be seen in these photographs.
