General News Roundup – 7th August 2012
Below: Two more of 196’s adverts – for what they are, watch this space!
Below: Darren and Mark have found a third variety of point lever for the narrow gauge, and were busily fitting this today. It is a very simple weighted throw-over type lever and adds a bit more interest and variety to the equipment on display and in use on this line.
Below: Tony and Dan at work on the shed doors – it is now a fully enclosed building ready to be painted… We have heard that the Go-Go tractor will not be available for the event now, but GP39 will be fantastic to have in operation.
Below: The seemingly never ending process of painting Lewin continues. Today I added the remaining black lining inside the cab. This will be edged in what was going to be yellow but I now wonder about red (having seen how nice it all looks with the red masking tape!). It would also match the numberplates. We shall see… Dave varnished the boiler cladding so next I need to put the black lining onto the driver’s side bunker, saddle tank and cylinder covers. Add more varnish and we are then ready for a steam test… Tony has made some timber covers for the right hand side bunker (which will be for tools etc.) and also measure up the roof for a strip of ash which will stiffen the roof as well as retain the tarpaulin weathersheet which the engine will inevitably require!
Lewin looked superb today – were the holes in the plastic tent intentionally done, or was a member of public just desperate to look inside?!
Hi Richard – unfortunately we’ve struggled to stop people poking holes in the tent. The information is there to minimise this, but the holes keep appearing! We even added more layers of material to try and seal up the space and reduce the dust blowing into the painting area, to no avail! So, we shall accept that people want to look inside and will tear and rip the tent to do this!
Thought that may have been the case… a shame it’s happening, did think it rather amusing at the thought of a visitor so desperate to get a glimpse they’re frantically ripping holes in a plastic tent! Hope it doesn’t affect the painting too much
