Dene reunion…
On Saturday the Museum hosted a reunion for staff from the Dene motorcycle works in Newcastle. Latterly a dealer, in its early years it built a number of motorcycles, five of which survive, two at Beamish. The group are seen here in the town with the two Beamish Denes and members of the Friends who hosted the gathering. Thanks to Colin Slater for the photograph.
Paul have you seen how the photographs are displayed if you click on any of them?
Very very tall and narrow
Hi Gordon – will look into this. Looks fine on all of the machines I use, but we will investigate as some others have raised this as a problem. Is it when you open them from the little gallery of thumbnails in the post? These should just appear within the post. Leave it with us but it will take a little while to sort.
Best wishes
Paul
Interesting , my grandad who lived in Stanley had a Dene bike too, I wonder if its the same one? I have a photo of him on it, you may like
Hi Tim – we would love to see the photograph if you could scan and e-mail it at all? If you mark ‘for the attention of Paul Jarman’ and send to museum@beamish.org.uk it will reach me directly. I look forward to hearing from you in due course. A lot of research is currently being done re our two Denes and access to this will appear on here in due course…
Hi Paul
I was an apprentice at the DENE from 1950 to 1956.
I was wondering if you could show the names of people in the photo.I’m sure i recognize one of them .could you e mail them to me starting left to right
Kind regards
Bryan
Hi Bryan,
I used to go to your Tynemouth Red shop after the Dene closed.
I organised the reunion as part of my research into the company for a forthcoming book. My father bought a Dene from the shop on closure. He also rebuilt the 1912 Dene now owned by Beamish. Present in the photo are ex Dene staff, Bill Wallace, Geoff Young, Eric Mussett, Jim Stephenson, Jim Oliver And June Foster.
Please get in touch. Thanks
