Scenes from the weekend…

Here is a further selection of scenes taken today whilst we displayed, in action, some additional transport and industry based artifacts.  Over the weekend we ran four trams, three service buses, the Gallopers, Waggonway, Y7 and NER coach, three motorcycles, one original bus, one steam roller, one traction engine, a lorry, Coffee Pot and a tractor.  All in glorious early autumn sunshine.

This gallery shows some of the attractions including Alan Borthwick’s Aveling steam roller and Arthur Wakefield’s Scammell, which both called in for the day.  Also shown is our ‘new’ Fordson N tractor.  This has been purchased as a working vehicle and is in fact something of a hybrid as it has been re-engined with a Perkins diesel and repainted blue (it should be orange or green).  It is, though, available on the turn of a key, offers fuel efficiency and is fitted with match-ploughing apparatus.  Very much a working exhibit.  It was usefully employed around the Colliery.  At the end of the day Mary Margaret towed Ian Cragg’s Ruston portable back to storage, where it will receive final painting work.

Thanks to all of those who volunteered their time over the weekend to ensure that the weekend really did present the Museum at its best!
