Great North Steam Fair – Day 1 – a few photos…

Below: Here is a selection of quickly grabbed images taken today showing just a few of the things going on at Beamish – I didn’t have time to catch up with any of the road based attractions, of which there are many.  Day 1 always takes a bit of adjustment but we should get into the full swing of things tomorrow…

Below: The use of very worn second (or third) hand track material on the narrow gauge has proved troublesome before and today it showed up some further issues.  Chris set about welding up very worn rail head in the area where the point blades close on one turnout, whilst another will receive some attention in the morning.  The variety of motive power, with differing back-to-back dimensions reveals these issues, though interestingly Chaloner, Paddy and Edward Sholto were ok.  The turnouts in particular are an assemblage of various bits and worn pieces.
