New Lewin photograph…

7th November 2011
A recent e-bay discovery and purchase was this wonderful view taken at Seaham Harbour some time in the 1950s and showing Lewin, or No.18 as we should call it, at the head of a line up of locos, possibly taken on a Sunday. I haven’t yet been over this image with a magnifying glass but already there are one or two features on the engine that have not been observed in other photographs and will send me back to the now very comprehensive files that have been compiled over the last seven years to see if I can narrow the date down and note the apparent changes.
At a glance the locos behind appear to include Milo, Seaham, Mars and some sort of Hawthorn – possibly Juno or Neptune. Note the foundation ring in the foreground and that the sun appears to be shining!
