General News Roundup 2nd August 2012

Below: The scumbling (wood-graining) of Lewin’s cab is now completed, and once dry and hardened it will have borders and lining added before final varnishing.  An attempt has been made to plank the surface, in order to avoid an overwhelming effect of one panel of grain.

Below: I’ve also started, using the power of high-quality masking tape, to apply the black borders and panels.  The bunker was the trial for this, with munched-in corners added using compass marks and guess work.  Phil Anderson has offered to add the white edges to these, which should considerably improve the job!

Below: Dave has been as busy as ever, and has made a rear handrail which fits within the swing of the brake handle.  This gains some height, lost on the back sheet due to the shortened brake column.  A simple form of bordering will be added to the rear panel once we can get at it!

Below: On 196, Peter Barlow has completed his repairs to the roof, and this is now waterproofed and painted.  The next job is refitting the advert boards as well as fitting the four new segments, which Phil will start signwriting this week.  The Beamish Tram Group have been overhauling various electrical fittings, as well as overhauling the original trolley base for the tram.

Below: A rather tight view of 196, but it shows the gloss blue and primrose to effect.

Below: Chris and Sarah have been working on refreshing the existing advert boards, and are seen here over-painting the existing but rubbed-down text.

Below: The apron for the workshop improvement has been laid and this removes the step into the building.  The cleared out space is very impressive (though no temporarily empty space stays that way for long!), and also shown below is the area which will form the new porch, to reduce the need to open the big doors frequently.
