Tram Depot Road 4/5 Energised…

The Beamish Tramway Group (Les, Peter and Mel) and Museum staff (Hugh) have been busily completing the work previously reported to wire then energise Road 4/5 in the depot area.  The positive wire has been hung and is now ‘live’ as the photos of both 26 and 31 taking power from it below show.  Once we have obtained some wire, the negative will be hung – used both for earthing of tramcars but also for use by the trolleybus.  As with Road 2/3, the wire is common to both and is located in the middle of Road 4/5 – though 5 is presently bus/trolleybus only, not having any rails yet installed (one for the future…).  Here is a gallery showing the great progress made by the group and Hugh, as well as the refurbished ex Tyne Pedestrian Tunnel (escalator) switch gear that has been installed and allows both the yard to be isolated as well as each individual cluster of roads (Road 1 has an identical blue box on the other side of the wall from those shown here).

The anticipated arrival of Lisbon 730 has now been put back until next week due to issues with a trailer, with Leeds 6 booked to make the return move to Heaton Park.
