Edward Sholto’s Steam Test…
The owner of Edward Sholto has had the injectors for the engine overhauled, at some expense, to remedy the original reason for it being taken out of use at Beamish in early 2012. A number of other small jobs have also been attended to, culminating in a steam test today to prove the repairs. These have been successful and the injectors work very well. The engine will now be presented to its owner’s boiler inspector, and all being well it will shortly become a part of the operating pool here. It is seen here undertaking a few test runs up and down the track, very much in need of a clean having been out of use for some two years now. A wash and brush up will now follow… By contrast it is seen with the ‘new’ Austin 10, which I am currently ‘road testing’!!! Two very nice machines.
Not directly related to “Edward Sholto” but it is a NG question – I’ve recently seen mention that Fletcher Jennings 0-4-0T “William Finlay” was at Beamish but I’ve never seen it there and it’s not in your stockist PDF of 2012. Was the loco ever located here, and if so has it moved on?
Hi Chris – the FJ is Beamish, but has only ever been stored on behalf of its owner and in a non-public area. It does not form part of our collection or plans, hence not appearing in the stocklist. It has been on site for a few years now and awaits an opportunity for its owner to progress its overhaul/restoration. This won’t be a Beamish activity which is why I’ve never mentioned it on the blog – as lovely a loco as it is! Paul
Thanks for the update, Paul. Another semi-mystery solved!
Paul – if you have a moment, can you send me your Beamish email address for an offline discussion, please?
