As we are now into quite detailed planning for the Remaking Beamish project, considerable thought is being given to the details – which in the case of transport are particularly focussed on the tram/bus depot, roads through the 1950s area and first phase of a bus station which has to serve a number of time periods. As well as photographs and some surviving artefacts, there are some very interesting films available online and I’ve put links to some of these (below) that are of particular interest (or amusement!). Interesting things to note, other than the vehicles, are the zebra crossings and road infrastructure of the day – which we will either need to find or recreate. Hopefully these will be of interest to blog followers!
The South Shields film is of great local relevance, and the 1927 colour one of London is fascinating – for the trams and buses alone!
