News from the Friends workshop

2nd April 2011
A fine sunny day today saw a lot of progress being made around Foulbridge, with the Friends carrying out work on existing projects as well as a number of new ones…
Below: A new project is the making of period road works barriers, to place around various piles of road material etc. around the site. These will be finished in red, with red/white poles between them. A few period road works signs should follow and I will place these initially in the Colliery Yard to support the ongoing road maintenance in the Pit Village. When I get around to it I will move the road menders hut to this location too.
Below: In the joiners shop repairs and refurbishment of station benches and creation of a number of new benches is proceeding. This is valuable work and our increasing numbers of visitors appreciate somewhere to sit!

Below: The street sweeper has reached the stage where the axle derived brush propulsion has been assembled and tested.

Below: Restoration of this child’s perambulator will see the original cradle conserved and the framework overhauled or created where missing. New wheels are also required. One of the more petite items in the transport collection!

A wide variety of work is always underway in the workshop, and utilises a wide variety of skills…
