T&I News 8 2023…
I thought I’d better have a post to note the recent Steam Gala and Easter weekend – both of which were extremely busy for the museum, with some mixed weather and great attendances by the visitors. I’ll leave general news to the next post, as this helps when searching for information on this site, so this post is largely photographic…
Spring Steam Gala/Easter weekend
Below: The weekend was a great success, with over 10,000 visitors across the two days (most being on the Sunday – Saturday being pretty wet throughout). The site was very busy but with plenty going on, the visitors were able to see a great deal of activity. This view shows how busy the Colliery yard was on Sunday afternoon. We now look ahead to the Fares Please! event in May, and then another transport gala in September – hopefully with some further visiting railway locomotives…
Below: I didn’t take many photos during the event as it was a busy one to run. I did manage a few over both the event and then Easter – here is a gallery of some of these images.
Below: A number of other photographers have submitted views to include here – Dave Hewitt sent these through:
Below: These are a few of the images that were sent by Henry Winskill. Both photographers were assisting us in documenting the event through images, and very kindly make these available to the museum to use in its various publications or publicity material.
Attended on the ‘dreich’ Saturday – but the smells, the coal smoke smells. Lingering in the damp atmosphere. Priceless!.
one good thing i saw in the loco shed at the pit village was the loco info boards inside the shed i did not see 1 for malable no 5 but i may have missed it hope the same thing will happen with puffin billy and the steam elephant at the waggon way. as the month of May gets near how is the over haul of puffin billy getting on?
gary
Hi Gary – there is a board for No.5, and yes, there will be more boards appearing in due course as the wider transport collection is covered. Puffing Billy and Steam Elephant are well covered by the boards at the back of the Great Shed, which have recently been relocated to improve visibility.
Best wishes
Paul
